Porto Vecchio is an excellent base for visiting some amazing beaches. It also has
lots of glamorous shops and some pleasant, if over-priced, restaurants, and the Old
Town is attractive (although as it's fairly small there's not too much to see).

The beaches are just incredible!! There are so many to chose from, you can easily
visit a different one each day. They all have gorgeous white sand and clear blue sea,
and are shallow so great for small children to splash around in. Lots of water sport
activities on offer too. Our favourite beach was Santa Guilia - really beautiful and
so much to amuse the children in terms of different water sports. I'd also recommend
San Cyprianu. Both had lifeguards, unlike a lot of the other beaches in Corsica. We
also hired a boat to explore the remote coves, which was fun.

The Alta Rocca mountains are not far from Porto-Vecchio, so you can easily vary the
holiday by including walking and rock climbing. Inland, there are some great
child-friendly rock-pools for swimming in.

One point to note is that the locals, especially outside of Porto-Vecchio, don't
speak much English. We found this added to the cultural experience - but remember to
take a phrase book if your French is a bit rusty!

We stayed with Thomson who looked after us well, and the villa was lovely (just 10
minutes drive south of Porto-Vecchio). We went just before the start of the summer
holidays and although the most popular beaches were quite crowded they were not
unbearably so.

I can't recommend the Porto-Vecchio area highly enough - it's one of the best, varied family holiday locations we've been to in ages! Only wish we had had a two week holiday rather than one...
