Beaches to the South of Porto-Vecchio


The jewel in the crown of Corsica's beaches, beautiful Palombaggia has been voted one of Europe's top ten beaches.

Backed by mountains, with powder soft sand, warm shallow azure sea, pink granite headland and umbrella pines running up to the beach, it is not hard to see why.

On top of this it has great water sport facilities and beach bars and restaurants. Suffice to say it get very busy in peak season.


Folacca, or Tamariccio, beach is adjacent to famous Palombaggia beach, yet does not get as crowded. It is an attractive, pristine beach in protected nature reserve, accessed by a 5-minute walk from the road.

Santa Giulia

Santa Guilia, close to Porto-Vecchio, is a simply stunning beach with fantastic bright turquoise shallow sea and unbelievably white soft sand.

There is a vast array of water sports on offer and a good choice of beach restaurants and bars. Not to be missed! Arrive early to reserve a spot.

Beaches to the North of Porto-Vecchio

Cala Rossa

Near to Porto-Vecchio at just ten-minutes by car, Cala Rossa is an elegant beach with reddish coloured sand and warm turquoise water, framed by mountains.

An idyllic spot, especially in the evening sun with the silhouetted mountains making a beautiful backdrop. Water sport hire and lessons available.

San Ciprianu

San Ciprianu is a top class, beautiful large sandy crescent bay 10 minutes' drive north of Porto-Vecchio, with great swimming, water sports and beach restaurants.

There is stunning mountain scenery behind the beach.


A 1.2 km long stretch of sandy white beach backed by pine trees, Pinarello is a popular family-friendly beach.

Water sports and boat trips are available from the marina, and there are several places to eat here too.

Fautea South

Fautéa, 40 minutes' drive from Porto-Vecchio, has two sandy beaches separated by a headland with a watchtower.

The attractive southern cove, accessed via a 400 m walk from the road through maquis, has a natural, wild feel (no facilities).

Fautea North

The northern cove, directly on the main road, has a popular beach restaurant.


45 minutes' from Porto-Vecchio, Tarco beach is on the quieter Cote des Nacres coastline north of Porto-Vecchio.

The sandy beach is located directly on the main N198 road, so is handy to visit if you are passing this way on a day trip, perhaps to the Alta Rocca region. It has good snorkelling.


Favone cove is approximately 50 minutes north of Porto-Vecchio, and a nice quiet beach to visit if you want to escape the summer hordes. It has exceptionally calm waters, so is good for swimming and snorkelling.

Porto-Vecchio Day Trips


Bonifacio is one of the most popular towns to visit in Corsica.

The citadel of Bonifacio Old Town looks down upon the deep natural harbour from its precarious position on the edge of the 60 m high sea cliffs.


Ospedale forest in the Ospedale Massif is within easy reach of Porto-Vecchio and is a great place for walking and other outdoor activities.

The lake of Ospedale Dam (Barrage) is located in a serene setting surrounded by mountains and pine trees.

Alta Rocca

The mountainous region of the Alta Rocca is a peaceful place of rugged beauty.

The journey from Porto-Vecchio is a relatively short and exhilarating drive with hairpin bends and dramatic views.

Col de Bavella

The pass of Col de Bavella is the best place to see the Aiguilles de Bavella (Bavella Needles).

These distinctive jagged peaks loom above the pass providing an unforgettable vista.

Col de Bavella is a focal point for a range of outdoor pursuits.

Rock Pools

On the journey east from Col de Bavella, the road drops down to the Cotes des Nacres coastline.

There are various rock-pools along this route (including the popular Cotes des Nacres rock-pool), which provide refreshing opportunities for swimming, picnicking and sunbathing.



The modern marina at Porto-Vecchio attracts numerous yachts and various boat trips depart from here. There is a selection of bars and restaurants on the quayside.

It's a ten-minute walk up to Porto-Vecchio Old Town from the Marina.
